Before Treatment Instructions:
•We ask that you schedule your appointment for facial filler at least 4 weeks prior to a major event or celebration you may take part in. You may experience some bruising as well as swelling which could last up to two weeks.
•To reduce risks of bleeding and significant bruising please avoid ibuprofen, aspirin (any product containing acetylsalicylic acid), vitamin E, St John’s Wort, and other dietary supplements including: fish oil, ginkgo, evening primrose oil, garlic, feverfew, and ginseng for 2 weeks.
•Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hrs prior to your appointment.
• Please stop any Retin-A use at least 2 days before as well as 2 days after treatment.
• If by chance you are sick, develop a rash, cold sore, or even a blemish to the area of treatment; we ask that you respectfully reschedule at least 24 hours in advance.
• If you have a history of cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could cause a breakout. Please let us know so you can be prescribed antiviral medication prior to treatment as well as after to help avoid eruptions.
• We ask that you avoid any dental procedures and vaccinations at least 2 weeks pre and post-treatment.
•Please notify us if you are breastfeeding or pregnant. Breastfeeding mothers or current pregnancy would not make you a candidate at this time. We will need to reschedule at a more appropriate timeframe.
•If possible, please come to your appointment with a washed face without make-up or lotion.
•Please be sure to eat and hydrate prior to your appointment as this will help decrease any chances of lightheadedness during the procedure.
Post Treatment Instructions
You have received a hyaluronic acid facial filler treatment. The results will be apparent immediately and will last from several months to several years depending on the filler used, treatment area, and your individual biology.
Please follow the instructions below after your facial filler treatment.
In the rare case of an adverse event, an antidote can be administered to partially or fully reverse the effects of treatment.
If you have any questions, please call our office.
What is normal after your procedure?
Due to the presence of lidocaine anesthetic in the gel, you may feel numbness or tingling immediately after the procedure. This will resolve within the hour.
Bruising may be visible initially, and then become more obvious the next day. It will fade over the next 7 to 14 days.
You may experience significant swelling after injections, especially if your lips were treated. Applying clean, cool compresses to the treatment area helps to reduce swelling.
Do not apply make-up over injection points for 24 hours after the procedure. If you need to hydrate your lips, simply apply Aquaphor with a clean cotton swab or Q-Tip.
Mild, non-painful swelling and lumps may last for up to 2 weeks.
Some people may experience a dull ache and/or tenderness in the treated areas. This will subside in 48-72 hours.
Helpful tips:
Refrain from touching the treatment area for the remainder of the treatment day to reduce the risk of infection.
Avoid exposure to UV light and extreme heat from saunas, steam, sunbed, hot showers, hot yoga, and strenuous exercise. They may increase discomfort and swelling.
Topical and oral Arnica+Bromelain are natural supplements that help reduce bruising. Taking an over-the-counter antihistamine (Zyrtec, Claritin) daily may help minimize swelling.
You may take acetaminophen/Tylenol for pain. It is best to avoid aspirin or NSAIDS such as ibuprofen, which may increase bruising.
Avoid applying unnecessary pressure over any areas treated, especially in the first 24 hours. This includes facial massages, facial treatments, and facial cradles.
Treated areas can be cleaned with a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave after treatment.
Avoid drinking alcohol for a minimum of 12 hours as this may contribute to bruising and/or swelling.
Avoid dental procedures and vaccinations for at least 4 weeks after a filler treatment.
At 2 weeks your hyaluronic acid filler has integrated into the tissues. At this point, it is normal to feel a cushion of the product but not to see product irregularities. Please let the office know if you detect any VISIBLE lumps or bumps.
Additional treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired look.
What is NOT normal after your procedure?
It is important for us to educate you about the rare risk of complications. Do not be alarmed. Please understand that it’s important to be well-informed. The bottom line, immediate treatment is the key to any unwanted symptoms. Contact us immediately if:
You observe any symptoms of a blocked blood vessel. This condition is associated with blanching (white patches on the skin) and pain beyond the level that you would expect. You may notice a cold area on your face or a tingling sensation. You may notice that the area starts to feel quite sore. Alternatively, a rash called livedo reticularis–which is a dusky discoloration of the skin– may appear. Pustules may also emerge. You develop fever and/or chills. You observe discolored blotches in areas not injected.
In urgent cases like these, the antidote for hyaluronic acid fillers will be used to melt the filler and unblock the blockage.
It is important to act swiftly to prevent scarring. If complications arise outside of normal office hours, contact your doctor or go to the nearest emergency department and request.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact Unconventional Aesthetics at 317-490-9503.
Before Treatment :
• Avoid aspirin (e.g., Excedrin),vitamin E, St. John’s wort, and other dietary supplements including ginkgo, evening primrose oil, garlic, feverfew, and ginseng for 2 weeks.
• Avoid ibuprofen (e.g., Advil, Motrin) and alcohol for 2 days.
• If possible, come to your appointment with a cleanly washed face and no makeup.
After Treatment :
You have received a neuromodulator treatment. Most patients start seeing benefits as early as 3 days and up to 14 days after treatment. The results last between 2-4 months depending on the area treated and the amount of product used.
Please follow the instructions below after your neuromodulator treatment.
Do not massage or manipulate injected areas for 24 hours after injections. Washing your face gently and applying make-up is fine. Avoid using a Clarisonic facial cleanser, having a facial, placing your face in a massage cradle, or lying face down in a chiropractor’s chair for 24 hours following the injection. If you are uncertain about the time frame between these activities and your treatment, ask your provider.
Do not rest your head or lie down for 4 hours following treatment. This will ensure the product will not spread into the orbit of your eye, which could cause a drooping eyelid in rare instances.
If you have had injections in the upper face, do not wear a headband or hat if the band extends across your forehead.
If bruising appears, gently apply a cool compress to the area. The most common side effect of Botulinum Toxin A injections is a headache, which may be treated with Tylenol.
If you are a chronic headache sufferer and have a prescription headache medication, you may take it as prescribed by your doctor.
Do not perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for the remainder of the day after treatment. This will prevent the Botox from migrating outside of the injected area.
A supplemental “refinement” treatment may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.
If the desired result is not seen 2 weeks after your treatment, you may require an additional product. Fees are based on the product used, therefore you will be charged for products used during any refinement or subsequent appointments. If this is your first treatment, we recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment 2 weeks after your injection.
If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate in contacting us at Unconventional Aesthetics at 317-490-9503.

Microneedling Postcare
You may not be treated if you meet any of the following criteria—a history of keloid scarring, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, blood clotting problems, autoimmune disorders, active bacterial/viral/fungal infection, Accutane use within 6 months, pregnant, active acne or open lesions in the treatment area. Moles, warts, or actinic keratosis cannot be treated AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT POST-NEEDLING If you wish to wash your face after, use tepid water. Immediately apply hyaluronic acid to the area to provide hydration and calm the skin. It’s perfectly normal to experience redness, swelling, and pinpoint bleeding after your microneedling treatment. This is nothing to worry about as this reaction is normal. Avoid working out/sweating or applying makeup for 24 hours. If going outside you must apply a high protection sunscreen. Don’t sweat or apply makeup for 24 hours. If you are going outside, you must apply a high protection sunscreen. If you have to wear makeup, use a makeup product that is specifically designed for sensitive skin or for post-treatment use to avoid irritation. AFTER-CARE 24 Hours After Microneedling: You can wash your face with a gentle cleanser and use a nourishing moisturizer. Avoid products that contain fragrance, active ingredients (vitamin C, vitamin a, retinol), acids (AHA, BHA, lactic), physical scrubs, and toners that may irritate the skin. At this stage, you may experience some mild swelling, peeling, bruising, and flaking. To minimize these effects, keep the skin moisturized. Moisturizing with the white Skinpen tube the first 24 hours will also reduce shedding and alleviate the feeling of tightness. Start the blue tube after the first 24 hours. Avoid exercising, excessively sweating, swimming, or applying makeup for 24 hours. You must use a high protection sunscreen when going outdoors and avoid prolonged sun exposure. 48 Hours After Microneedling: Optional: If you have dry and flaking skin, you can gently exfoliate to speed up recovery. Do not use a chemical or harsh physical exfoliant; opt for a washcloth. And if your skin feels sensitive, do not exfoliate yet; it will subside soon. Continue to hydrate the skin twice per day. 3-5 Days After Microneedling: Apply high protection sunscreen daily, avoid direct and extended sunlight. Focus on hydrating and moisturizing products and avoiding active ingredients, scrubs, acids, and toners. 7+ Day After Microneedling: Return to your regular skincare routine!
Pre-Treatment Instructions:
Avoid supplements such as Gingko, Vitamin E and fish oil for 5 days prior to treatments to avoid increased bruising. Avoid Aspirin, Vitamin E, anti-inflammatory drugs such as Motrin, Advil or Aleve for 5 days prior to treatment to avoid increased bruising. Wash the area to be treated vigorously with antibacterial soap the night before or the morning of your treatment. Do not use any lotions, creams, bath oils or sprays on the areas to be treated the day of your treatment. Eat a light, high protein meal 2-4 hours before your treatment or a high protein bar approximately 30-45 minutes before your treatment.
Post-Treatment Instructions:
You may go back to work, school and daily activities. Avoid hot baths for at least 48 hours. Avoid hot showers for at least 48 hours; warm showers are okay. Drink 1 gallon of water the day of your treatment and at least 80 ounces (10 glasses) of water a day until 6 weeks post treatment. No hot tubs or steam saunas (infrared okay after 2 days) for at least 2 weeks after treatment. No vigorous exercise (increased heart rate) for 48 hours. Wear loose fitting clothes for at least 48 hours after your treatment. Bruising may last for 10 or more days after treatment. Avoid drugs and herbs listed above will help to reduce bruising. Do not sunbathe or use a tanning bed for 2 weeks after treatment. 1-3 days. You should drink plenty of fluids and gently massage the treated areas after your treatment. Simple analgesia (panadol/ibuprofen), ice application for 10 min every hour will make it more comfortable, but most patients don’t need it. *Try to avoid anti inflammatories and ice though if possible as it can affect the fat dissolving process * Don’t use cosmetic creams/procedures on the area. 3-7 days. Massage/endermology /lymphatic drainage etc is recommended to speed up recovery and decrease lumpiness. If any signs of infection at this stage – please, let us know immediately (redness, swelling and fever significantly increased all the sudden). Sometimes you may notice numbness – it’s rare side effect, which is self resolving in few weeks. Extremely rare (we never saw it, but should let you know for medico-legal reasons) is skin necrosis – if your pain increased, skin turned black or pale – contact us immediately. 7-14 days – continue massage. Start regular skin care. You will notice that swelling is improved, bruising is also improved (if it was any). Swelling usually lasts 2 months, until full skin turn over (people with fast metabolism it’s less, with slow metabolism – it’s longer). “Bad” significant swelling noticeable to others generally lasts around 3 days (+ few more days if person is prone to fluid retention) and then mild, not noticeable swelling lasts next 6-8 weeks while the new skin regenerates.
WHAT TO EXPECT: There can be some redness, stinging and burning within 15 minutes to 2 hours after treatment and later swelling and bruising which peaks between 6-72 hours. Redness and swelling to the treated area and surrounding tissues will be noticeable for 3-7 days or longer. You may experience several post-inflammatory nodules. These indicate ongoing fat necrosis (a good thing) these will disappear within 30 days. Results from treatment can often be noted about 4-5 weeks after your last treatment depending on your metabolism and body type. This improvement may be more evident in a photograph than in your own estimation. Inflammation will be present up to 4 weeks after treatment, which will limit any visible result. The inflammatory response continues and you may not see the final result for up to one year (rare). Do not wash or take a shower for at least 4 hours after treatment. ARNICA CREAM (STOCKED AT PHARMACY OR SUPERMARKET) CAN BE APPLIED THREE TIMES A DAY FOR 48 HOURS TO RESOLVE BRUISING. Do not take anti-inflammatories (aspirin) or Vitamin E for 24 hours after injections. You can use Tylenol for any discomfort. Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds for two weeks post treatment. • Massage the treated area for about 15 minutes per day for two weeks after treatment to aid the process of fat elimination. Walking 20-30 minutes daily during the course of treatment will aid in effectiveness. Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours. Drink lots of fluids (water) for the first 24 hours. Avoid alcohol to facilitate hepatic handling of toxins.
CLINIC FOLLOW UP: Make a followup appointment for 4-6 weeks. Failure to follow the above advice will result in less than desired results.
